A.M.

Work started at 10:15 because of inclement weather.

A section through the balk in G 93-96 was started, to track the stratigraphy of this area of the trench. (see

)

The fill from 1987 in grids I-L 89-93 was removed so that the protective plastic over the Southeast Building's flor can be lifted back as far as the second row of column bases. This will give a reference point of the floor level for excavation this summer, to find out what happened around the perimeter of the Southeast Building upon its destruction. Approximately 1/4 cassetta of tile was recovered from the fill.

P.M.

The section of the balk G 93-96 was completed.

A 5-10 cm cut through meters F-G 93-97 was begun. This area and depth still show signs of being the remnant of a modern dump area from earlier excavations in the area. The dirt was heavily compressed and showed many small pieces of the tile and plaster (1 1/2 cassette). Substantial amounts of burnt wood also appeared, probably the result of modern fires.

More fill in I-L 89-93 was removed, leaving a narrow path along the south end for access without stepping on the plastic (risking damage to the floor below).

Sketches were made of both the rock formation in H 96-97 and the pan tile under the stump in H 91-92.
