Locus 1 Diagnostic Pottery

Pottery Analysis

CA 70 – 2013 Sounding yielded a decent amount of pottery for the size of the trench and the amount of time it was excavated. In all three loci, impasto was by far the most common fabric found. A relatively small amount of fine impasto was found compared to impasto and hardly any cream ware, coarse ware, Buccheroid, and Bucchero were found. In all loci, only one loci, Locus 2 contained fragments of Bucchero and only one of the 7 shards found was diagnostic. Locus 1 had the most pottery found with 52.98%, Locus 3 had 35.74%, and Locus 2 had 11.29%. Locus 2 was the smallest in area, less than .5 meters squared and would make sense that it would have the fewest amount of pottery shards. No pottery found in any of the 3 loci can be considered datable and therefore does not help the chronology of the CA area.
