July 10, 2003

An area was cleared west of Tesoro 32, and points from that trench were used to establish the points for Tesoro 33.  Because Tesoro 32 was displaced from the grid by 50 sm due to the sharp dropoff, Tesoro 33 was placed on the same east-west line:  161 - 164 E, 58.5 - 60.5 S.  Opening coordinate elevations were taken from a datum point on a tree northeast of the trench.  Its elevation is 29.0 m.  Opening depths were:  northwest corner 27.94 m, northeast corner 27.94 m, southeast corner 27.96 m, southwest corner 27.97 m, and center 27.95 m.  A pick pass was made through a rooty humus layer of soil, filled with organic material.  This topsoil layer is designated Locus 1 .  It is dark brown in color.

Loose soil was cleared and a couple more pick passes were made.  Although many pieces of terracotta came up, heavily eroded, no special finds were generated.

Locus 1:

  • 203 terracotta fragments
  • 17 ceramic fragments

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
