Below the grey brown soil, beginning at a depth of ca. 20 cm and extending to the currently excavated floor level of this area of the trench of ca. 45 cm, there was next encountered a stratum of "sandy", light brown soil.  This light brown soil was rather loose in consistency and contained a light concentration of carbonized wood and disintegrated plaster.  Much of the pottery found in this stratum was also burned.  Beginning at a depth of ca. 35 cm in meters G/42-43, however, it was noted that this light brown soil became much more clay like an compacted and lost its "sandy" consistency.  Initially , very little material was discovered in this light brown "clayey" soil.  However, at the end of

this season a few large tile fragments began to appear.  Unfortunately, there was not sufficient time to clear and properly define these tiles.

2.  Work was also continued this season in clearing and further defining the tile concentration exposed last year in meters I/44-45 and along the southern edge of meters H/44-45.  The concentration was found to extend to the west into meter I/43, where additional tiles were found at a depth of ca. 50 cm.  However, no nre tiles have been encountered as yet to the north.  Instead, a concentration of small rocks was exposed to the north of the tiles in meters G/44-45 and in the northern portion of meters H/44-45.  The soil around

these rocks was light brown in color and of a clay like consistency.

3.  Finally, the trench floor in meters G/47-48 was extended from a depth of ca. 45 to a depth of ca. 55 cm.  The soil in these meters was grey brown in color and contained sporadic concentrations of carbon.  A substantial amount of both  tile and pottery was found in this grey brown soil.
