Pottery Summary
Pottery summary
Given the small area of excavation, the amount of pottery recovered in CA-36 was not as high as last year. However even this small area produced a large amount of interesting and unusual pottery. Like last year, most of the pottery is highly fragmentary and worn. However, a few fragments of stamped bucchero were recovered. In addition to this , 2 full profiles were found in these 3 meters. One vessel is a relatively straight walled vessel with an everted rim (p. 101 #5) of coarseware. The other vessel, whih joined fragments found and catalogued last year ( 19930130 , 19930131 ), is a small bucchero bowl with an everted rim and elaborate stamped decoration. Both of these vessels, like the 2 found last year, were found resting at the lowest portion of the medium brown soil with carbon inclusions.
With the exception of a single fragment, all pottery was found within the medium brown soil. Perhaps an explaination for this anomaly is root action from a stump above this area from which the sherd was found.
There are no diagnostic sherds which differ from those drawn in the 1993 pottery summary ( p. 39-47 ).
