Conclusion

The excavation of Rect. 2 revealed two heavily concentrated tile falls intermixed with pottery and some unusual rock packings. The first tile and pottery cache encountered was in area A-3 ( see pgs. 33-36 ). Both tile falls included fragments of "early" pan tiles and examples of early coarse-ware pottery rims and handles. Both areas offered evidence for a burning layer as indicated by the heavy amounts of carbon mixed with the soil.

The size and position of the stones encountered in area B/1-6 suggests that it is bedrock rather than a man-made packing. Similar bedrock was found in section D-1 ( see diagram pg. 42 ).

Two stone packings, apparently aligned east/west, reside in grid C-3/5 adn D-E/1-6. The packing in grid C-3/4 curves from the north into an eventual east/west alignment ( see pg. 42 ).

Rect. 2 yielded the highest amounts of pottery near the upper building foundation walls. Excavation near the rectangle revealed either large slabs of bedrock or rock packing predominantly aligned on an east/west orientation. An overall view of both Rect. 1 and Rect. 2 shows what may be a wall running the length of

both rectangles ( see pg. 31 ).

A tentative excavation of Rect. 1 in grid A-1 and B-1 revealed a well preserved terracotta animal head and fragments of sima backing.
