2015 Excavations

7/7/15

AM

Excavations will be started again for the 2015 season. Due to the shortened season last summer locus 13 and 14 (see page 157 and 163) were not finished and stones did not appear to be in those loci. However with the excavations in T-70 it has become clearer that if there are linear rocks in T-57 then they are lower a linear line of stones seems to be running from south to north along the eastern baulk wall of  T-70. Therefore we will begin excavations again in T-57 to better understand the extent of these stones. T-57 will be added to the corrected grid from 2015. Only the western part of T-57 will be opened for now. The southern baulk wall was found using triangulation off the southern baulk of T-73. The area of excavation will extend from 89E to 93E and 34S to 37S. The L shaped wedge that was outside the 2014 trench will be excavated first to the bottom of locus 14 then everything will be declared a single locus and defined.

Locus 15 is top soil and extends south and west of the 2014 baulk.

A pick pass was done in locus 15 . Tile and pottery was found while the soil was sorted into buckets. The tile is very worn and pitted. The soil is the humus layer full of roots and other organics. The soil is mostly dark brown with patches of reddish silt. There are many small rocks in no discernible pattern. A second pick pass was done and the strip left between T-70 and T-71 was knocked down. The locus was scraped down to the same level of locus 14 , once this is done then we will close locus 15. Closing elevations will be forgone with today since a little more scrapping is needed and then the locus will be closed.

Bulk Finds

Tile- 25 pieces

Pottery- 6 pieces
