CB-38 is a 5 x 5 m trench located in the southern part of the Civitate B area. The trench was originally laid out in 2010 and was triangulated using tape measures off of a baseline running along the line 50W on the master grid that was shot using a transit. A new baseline along the line 45W on the master grid was shot in 2011 using a transit and CB-38 was re-triangulated off of this new baseline, again using tape measures. The coordinates of the trench are as follows:
- NW corner: 97S / 50W
- NE corner: 97S / 45W
- SE corner: 102S / 45W
- SW corner: 102S / 50W
A datum point with an absolute elevation of 31.42 m absolute elevation will be established on a tree located near the northeast corner of the trench.
The trench is located in close proximity to CB 35 and CB 39, which were both opened in 2010, and to CB 42, CB 43, and CB 44, which will be laid out and opened in 2011.

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.
The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
