Description | Locus 8 is located in the southeast corner of the trench and appears to be a heavily burnt soil. Combined with Loci 7 and 9, Locus 8 seems to comprise an element of an architectural feature. The soil of Locus 8 appears to be burnt, for it is extremely hard packed and has started to turn red, and so Locus 8 has been identified as a possible hearth. The soil of Locus 8 is extremely hard packed and a strip of the soil has turned a red color, while the soil surrounding this red segment is more yellow. It seems that this burnt soil extends into the southern baulk wall, although it appears to stop just short of the eastern baulk wall. Locus 8 was not actually excavated, just exposed and so no materials have been recovered from this locus. However, there also does not appear to be any materials located within this locus, for none are visible on the surface. |
