Description | Locus 2 extends approximately in the westernmost 2 meters of the trench, and is composed of a dark olive brown, clay-like, and slightly mottled soil. This locus, like Locus 1, contains a mixture of ancient and modern materials, including ancient roofing tiles and ceramic sherds, modern roofing tiles, modern pottery, and some asphalt, probably from the construction of the road. Therefore, like Locus 1, Locus 2 is also probably some sort of fill deposit, left in the area when either the road to the east or the tennis courts to the west were constructed. Locus 2 also contains noticeably more pottery than Locus 1, although there is less bone present. Additionally, Locus 2 is equivalent to Locus 11 in the northern extension of the trench. |
