Description Locus 18 is a sounding in the north west of the trench between locus 11 and locus 14 and south of locus 13. The soil consists of a sandy clay with white and green decaying rock inclusions, as well as carbon inclusions. Limited amounts of pottery and tile were recovered from this soil. The soil became a more compacted dense brown clay after about 10cm with a larger amount of tile and pottery inclusions. At the bottom of the sounding was green, blue, and white decaying bedrock material, demarcating the line into sterile soil. The eastern side of the locus bordered locus 14 and 5 and coursing layers of the linear rock features were revealed. Moderate amounts of bone, tile, and pottery were recovered from this locus. Locus 18 represents a sounding into the soil which characterizes Locus 15 in order to reveal coursing at the corner of the wall in Locus 5 and Locus 14. Locus 18 is interpreted to be the fill which was placed into the ditch cut into galestra on either side of the wall created after the construction of the wall and equal to that of Locus 6 on the opposite side of Locus 14. A full impasto base with three associated fragments (Vdm20165075) was recovered from Locus 18.
