Munsell Color 2.5Y 5/4 light olive brown
Description Locus 4 consisted of a dark, reddish-brown, claylike, slightly mottled soil that contained inclusions of terracotta, rocks, and some charcoal. Although brown, mottled, and claylike, Locus 4 should be considered as part of the same soil package as Loci 3 and 5, both of which seem to be redeposited galestra. This is because patches of this brown, mottled soil appeared throughout Locus 5 and there were in fact patches of galestra-like soil throughout Locus 4. Like Locus 3, Locus 4 is very thin, with an average depth of approximately 4.5cm. However, given the shallowness of this locus, Locus 4 contained a high quantity of materials; 4 bowls of tile and ceramic, 79 sherds of pottery, and 10 pieces of bone were recovered. In addition, the first metal find of the trench, a bronze flake, was found in Locus 4.
