Descriptive Properties (12)
Variable Value
Definition East bedrock column
Bottom (m) Closing Elevation: ???
Size 6.81 m in diameter at its exposed height; north face 1.88 m wide; east face 1.70 m wide; south face 1.87 m wide; west face 1.36 m wide; 1.01 m deep to the fill on south face.
Phase Description Phase IV: Nabataean Grand Design: 1st c. BCE to CE 1st c. The remainder of the subterranean canalization is installed including the East Plaza Great Cistern. The East and South Perimeter Walls are installed and Rooms A and B and the Tabun Cave Room are built into the casemate of the East Perimeter Wall. The East Plaza and South Passageway are paved and the temple Forecourt is raised and laid with a small hexagonal pavement. Residential Quarter is built in the southwest corner of the precinct. Also at this time the Central Staircase of Phase II is blocked and the lateral East and West Staircases are constructed to access the Lower Temenos.
Top (m) Opening Elevation: 902.840 m on east face at ceiling.
Description A massive column cut out of the natural bedrock in the southeast quadrant of the cistern. The west side is more squared-off in its corners, suggesting that it is possibly built up below its plastering, but the east side curves out as it runs into the bedrock ceiling, so it is most probably part of the bedrock. The lower levels of what can be seen of the west face at this point show considerable calcification.
Stage Description Cutting and furnishing of the cistern and overlying and connecting canalization.
Stage Stage 1
Location In southeast of cistern.
Relations Extends up to: Ceiling of bedrock, Locus 4, out of which it is cut.
Phase IV
Architectural or Soil Locus? Architectural
