Description Locus 106 consists of the four floor pavers outside the “bathroom” in the “hallway” of the “hypocaust room” against the West Precinct Wall. The floor was part of the floor of the “hypocaust room” (Locus 42) to the south, but as there is no direct connection between the two sections now, this has been assigned as a separate locus. The incompleteness of the floor to the north may simply be due to robbing out, or alternatively, the missing area corresponds roughly to the location of the lead pipe (Locus 54), suggesting that these pavers may have been removed to install or repair that pipe (see the description of Locus 54 for further discussion). The relationship between the floor and Loci 38 and 105 is not especially clear, due mainly to insufficient study. The four pavers appear to be built up to the West Precinct Wall, but they may continue underneath Locus 105. This locus is phased to Stage 3 because of its essential function in the “hypocaust room,” and its relation to the other architectural features in the room.
