Description | Locus 3 lies below Locus 1 in the central meters of VT11. It is roughly triangular in shape extending across the entire north-south of the trench, but covers the central two southern meter line and about .5 meter of the central northern meter of the trench. It abutts Locus 2 to the south and Locus 4 to the north. Locus 3 is a heavily compacted dark grey-brown soil modelled with blue in areas. it has some visible stones in the east abutting the section wall. It has an abundance of tile and pottery, all seemingly ancient - relative to Locus 1, however, some modern materials were recovered from this locus, therefore, it is not an entirely secure stratum. Most of the pottery was impasto body sherds, comprising 251 of the total. However, a good number of diagnostic sherds were found including 15 impasto bases and 18 fine impasto rims. |
