A.M.

The entire area of T-22 West Extension was cleared of backfill and washout.  Significant amount of soil had eroded from the baulk throughout the winter.  Circa 1/2 a cassette of fragmentary, worn tile was removed from the loose washout along with small worn fragments of pottery.

Two bronze objects were recovered, one from I/44 #1 and one from I/43 #2.  Number one is a decorated lozenge fibula with concentric circles surrounded by chevrons.  The ends are demarkated by incised lines.  Only the arc of the fibula is preserved.  Number 2 is a small, comb bead of a pin with a flat, ribbon shaft (not preserved).

One other small, amorphous bronze fragment was recovered in I/43.

After clearing the baulks of the trench, an initial cut was taken in meter G/49.  The cut was roughly 7-10 cm through medium brown soil with plaster inclusions.  Small, worn fragments of pottery were found along with worn tile fragments.  A portion of a bone with cut marks was also recovered.  G/49 is roughly now at a depth of 55-60 cm.  THis cut will be extended east tomorrow.  Further cleaning in the area of I/44-43 produced further examples of amorphous bronze.
