Pick axed through the eastern half of the trench. through the humus and topsoil layer of locus one. The soil remains dominated by roots and rocks as well as some worn terracotta. Some small to medium pieces of carbon have also been appearing sporadically across the trench, in addition to some fairly worn burnt pieces of terracotta. The soil still remains fairly rocky, and some lager stones have emerged in the middle of the trench and have been worked around. Eroded and fragmentary pieces of pottery have also surfaced. As we continued to go through the soil of locus 1, larger, less worn pieces of terracotta are beginning to be found, including a pan tile with incised decoration (Find 1). Two other joining pan tile fragments with incised markings were also uncovered (Find 2).

PM

Continued pick passing through Locus 1. Defined around the large rocks which were popping up across the trench. The northwest corner of the trench has been revealing terracotta with increased frequency- a possible tile spread or concentration. Many of the rocks appear to be underline by other rocks, possibly purposefully laid on top of one another. A cover tile with a full width was uncovered near the western baulk wall in the northwestern area of the trench and was made a find (Find 3).
