Photographs taken

Lowered shelf in H-I/49 down to approx. 130cm.  Soil was medium to dark brown with carbon and plaster inclusions.  Found 1/6 cassetta of tile and plaster, 2/3 latte of pottery and bone, and a fossilized shell, find #1.

Began another cut in H-I/49 to approx. 145cm.  Soil was dark brown with small carbon inclusions, amounts of material will e recorded this afternoon.  Also found 2 finds: find #3, a small fragment of painted creamware and find #5, a flat piece of twisted bronze.

Straightened baulk of I/46-48, recovering 1/3 cassetta of tile, 2/3 latte of pottery and bone, and 2 thin bronze shafts (finds #2 and 4).

Completed this mornings cut in H-I/49 was completed from 130-145 cm deep.  The N-E corner of H/48 was also included in this cut.  The soil was dark brown with occasional inclusions of carbon.  1 2/3 latte boxes of pottery and bone were removed with 1/2 cassetta of tile and plaster fragments.  A second cut in H-I/49 and a portion of H748 was begun and nearly completed to a depth of approximately 160cm.  The dark brown soil with carbon inclusions continued.  A yellow-brown clay-like soil was beneath it.  1/3 latte of pottery and bone, and 1/16 of small tile and plaster fragments were removed.

All of this afternoon's finds came from the dark brown soil in these two cuts.
