IV. DAILY LOG

IV.  DAILY LOG

A.M.          2 July 2012

Trench CB-58 was opened this morning.  Brush and loose stones were removed.  The trench was staked out.  Opening photos were taken and co-ordinate depths measured.

:

Opening co-ordinates:

NW (42-E/53-S):  39 cm. below datum point =  26.06 m. above absolute elevation

NE (46-E/53-S):  53 cm. below datum point =  25.92 m. above absolute elevation

SE (46-E/57-S):  74 cm. below datum point =  25.71 m. above absolute elevation

SW (42-E/57-S):  49 cm. below datum point =  25.96 m. above absolute elevation

Center of trench:  59 cm. below datum point = 25.86 m. above absolute elevation

The surface area of the trench is covered in organic matter and the soil is dark-brown in color.  This surface deposit was declared locus 1.  After the tench was set up, a pick-pass was begun starting from the western side, moving from north to south (1 m. x 4 m.) and approximately 10 cm. in depth.  The soil removed from this locus contains numerous small stones (fist-size and smaller).  The pick-pass was not completed.  Approximately 2/3 bowl of terracotta fragments

was recovered.  All the terracotta was highly worn.
