A cut to ~30cm was made in U,V,W - 71-73. This cut was ~30cm in W - 71-73 but fell to ~50cm in U- 71-73. The floor was exposed throughout these meters, at ~ 30cm in V-73 and at ~50cm in U-73. It is not known at the moment if the floor extends to W-73 since the 30cm depht in this meter appears to have not taken the trench to floor level. The soil of the cut is generally light brown with tile, though there are concentrations with light-yellow soil and red-brown soil with plaster. THe floor in U,V,W-71-73 (except for W-73) is well preserved. A large flat stone, apparantly incorporated into the floor was uncovered in U,V-73 at ~40-50cm. This stone lies ~2.80m from the large stone in U-76. The cut to the floor was extended through the extension though meters W,V- 73-71 (except to the floor in W-73) and into meters U-73-71.

Work continued in exposing the tile and plaster in meteres M,N,O - 77-79 at ~80 cm with mestaline. Tile continued to be found, as well as bits of carbonized wood and fragments of bone and bronze.

Work continued in R-74 with dental tools excavating around the ivory fragments found at ~40cm.

The floor in meters U,V,W - 73-71 was swept, revealing a layer of orange terracotta-like material just above the floor throughout the center of this 9 square meter extension. The terracotta-like material was

further swept with horse hair brushes and soil was removed with mestaline. This cleaning revealed at least 6 human footprints molded into the terracotta-like material. The terracotta-like material appears to be a set of covertiles layed edge to edge and front to back. That they are imprinted with human footprints implies that they were not yet fired. The very fragile nature of the terracotta-like material also seems to indicate that the "covertiles" were not fired. It is possible that the tiles were layed out to dry and harden before firing.

The length of these apparent covertiles is ~68cm while the width is ~18cm. The depth of this layer just above the floor is ~50cm. Note also that another large flat stone, apparently incorporated into the floor, was revealed in meter W-71 at ~40 cm. This stone is ~2.80 from the stone in U/V-73.

For a rough sketch of the "covertile" area see pg. 43 . Note that the soil between the covertiles and also directly above the floor looked as though it may have been decomposed wood. This is thought to be modern but a soil sample was taken down to magazino, see also drawing on pg. 40 .
