1N Tilebed finally cleaned and lifted See additional finds 262
1R A new trench was laid out, 1R, 5x5.5m running along the wall. Topsoil lifted. 2 boxes of tiles from the topsoil layer. Tiles showing up immediately under topsoil, but seemed to disappear ? or diminish in number towards the E edge. A nail was found and several oddly shaped objects, one of which lifted with find #3 tr. 1N.
1Q The second layer of soil was taken off down to about 20 cm throughout the trench. Small patches of red soil (stratum D - see SC, book 1, p. 31 ) as in 1C

Seated statue, fragment of shoulder
appeared at irregular intervals. In the middle of one such patch were tow mud bricks, with smaller fragments scattered throughout. A roughly egg-shaped stone, possibly a slinging stone, was found 5m N along the west edge of the trench.
