Morning

We make a cut to level off the trench before making a third cut mocing from alpha to gamma 13=15. This cut "2-" however, itself slopes somewhat to the north end, where the depth reaches 70cm. The soil does not change significantly, but does grow more clayey, with galestro-like masses in gamma. Pottery occurs in moderate quantity-though finewares (cf. # 's 2 and 13) seem scarce- untill gamma when finds gro scarce. Tile is also well-represented, and several decorative and marked fragments occur (# 's 1, 4, 5, 8, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 23, 24). What is remarkable is the sheer quantity of bronize, numerous, often latge, fragments but also several nails, pins and spikes (# 's 3,6, 9-11, 19, 22). Bronze is concentrated in the west edge, in 12.

Among the tile we note an example of a type pan tile characteristic of the deep burn of AG-X and associated apparently with the lower building, that is with low, squared off flange; the example is badly worn as is a far percentage of the tile here. Signs of severe burning are apparent in a number of black and even blue-gray tile fragments and in some of the pottery; also in the fragment #12.

Meanwhile, we continue to dig down, now with a hammer in Rect 22 c 2-3, finding about 1/2 carton of sherds, a number of carbonized seeds (#25) in the northeast corner and a small bead of bronze.

We begin the shallow cut 3 in 12-14 gamma once cut 2 is complete noting no soil change and finding the fragment #26. Note that no wall has been turned up in gamma 12-15.
