Excavation of the N extension was completed as we cleared rocky soil to bedrock in the latest enlargement of this area to the E. We also continued working on the upper layers of the S extension, where more fragments fo tiles and pottery appeared ca 1.0-1.25 m. These wer small fragments and very worn. In allm 5 boxes of tiles and about 3/4 box of pottery  were accumulated from CA1. In the N extension were found:

19690094

19690093

  • find 7
  • no grid
  • rocchetto fragment

19690605

  • find 10
  • U-18
  • 1.10 m
  • fragment of procession frieze

19690395

19690395
  • find 12
  • T-18
  • 1.00 m
  • sima fragment with  lowere part of cavetto

19690022

19690022
  • find 14
  • U-16
  • 1.20 m
  • fragment of rocchetto

We also dug four test trenches, labelled CA 1a, CA 1b, CA 26, and CA 27. Ca 1a, lying within the overall grid for CA1 (F-J 4-5), measured 1.0 x 4.0 m EW. We accumulated one hadful of tiles from this trench before encountering galestra at a depth of 0.30 - 0.40 m . CA 1b (N-P, 0-1)  was situated on the N side of CA 1 and measured 1.0 x 2.0 m. again we found a few tiles, but this time found bedrock at the W end (0.20 m deep) and very rocky soil (which we dug to 0.60 m) in the 1.20m. E of the bedrock. the trench was abandoned as unproductive.

Of the test trenches outside CA 1, CA 26 was laid out 2 meters N of CA 1 at the W end, and measured to

1.0 x 2.0 m. We found two vase handles in the rocky soil, then galestra appeared at a depth of only 0.20m. Havin dug a section only 1.0 x 1.0 m at the W end, we stopped work on this trench. CA 27, lying just W of the agger and N of CA 14, measured 1.0 x 1.50m. (E-W). It yielded about 1/3 box of tiles. We discontinued work at a depth of 0.40, where thw soil was brown and rocky.
