Pottery Summary

Pottery Summary

The ceramics recovered from VT8 totaled over 1,000 sherds. The majority of ceramics across all Loci were of impasto. The ceramics from topsoil/fill layers ranges from modern, medieval, Italic terra sigilata, to 4th.3rd century BCE wares, such as black gloss sherds. Notably a large number of pithos and cooking ware fragments were recovered in what appear to be secure contexts, Loci 4 , 5 , 10 , 11 , 12 . As well as this these contexts uncovered ceramics that allow us to date the floor surface uncovered. The black gloss wares are strongly suggestive of late 4th century BCE, as well as the late bucchero sherds
