Locus 14 was closed

Closing depths of locus 14:

NE corner:  9 cm. above datum point

NW corner:  20 cm.

SW corner:  25 cm.

SE corner:  14 cm.

Locus 16 was established this morning.  The soil is not as compact and grainy as that of locus 14 and is darker in color.

Munsell for locus 16:  hue 2.5 Y 5/6 light olive brown

Photographs were taken of locus 16.  Excavations were carried out in both loci 15 and 16.  Locus 15 was finished.  Merely 4 chewed up pieces of terracotta or pottery found in this locus.

NE corner:  5 cm. above datum point

NW corner:  5 cm.

SW corner:  5 cm.

SE corner:  5 cm.

In locus 16 approximately 1 bowl of terracotta fragments recovered and approximately 3/4 latte box of pottery sherds found.  In this locus a moderate size (approximately 15 X 20 cm.) chalky

white stone is being uncovered which was noticed earlier when locus 14 was being excavated.  Also, the soil of locus 16 shows a wide range of mottling throughout.  Five special finds were made here today.
