Locus 6 was excavated down to what appeared to be new loci.  The rock line exposed yesterday appears to seperate two distinct soils beneath the olive brown soil of Locus 6.  On the western side, closest to the burn layer, the brown soil gave way to a whiter, chalky, rockier layer. This appeared to creep up the slope of the burn layer that is pedestaled on the western side.  It visibly has nothing in it.  This soil will be designated Locus 8.

On the eastern side of the rock line, closest to the eastern baulk wall, and closest also to the apparent concentration of tiles within Locus 6, appeared an orange-brown soil willed with disentegr<ated plaster and tile,  It appears to be also mottled with the white chalky rocks that were found in Locus 8.  This layer will be designated Locus 9.

The rock line itself rests within a white, chalky rock layer.  This rock line will be designated Locus 9.

The coordinates for each locus are as follows:

Locus 8:

  • NW  (162.45, -58.5)  elev. 26.83
  • NE   (162.75, -58.5)  elev. 26.74
  • SE   (162.57, -60.5)  elev. 26.71

  • SW  (162.87, -60.5)  elev. 26.84
