AM worked in magazzino
PM work continued with the excavation of the layer with small boulders which runs through P/Q 36-40
Over the weekend we put in grid pegs at two points: Q/R 35-36 and Q/R 38-39. The measurements for the surface of today's excavation were taken from the ground level at Q/R 38-39.
Excavation of this stony layer needed two passes. The second was almost complete by the time excavation ended for the day. P/Q 39-40 needs to be completed
The stones range in size from cobbles to medium boulders. This 7x1m area produced roughly 100 stones. Removal of these stones is revealing a soil similar in color and texture but with far fewer stones.
One half a cassetta of tile fragments were recovered. This included a few
pantile fragments, some with flanges and several covertile fragments. There were no complete profiles or any distinguishing features among these fragments.
One full litre milk carton of pottery was also recovered. There were no special finds.
