The People Behind Open Context
Open Context is maintained and administered by a dedicated staff with the Alexandria Archive Institute, a not-for-profit organization. Primary field datasets are, by their nature, less heavily "polished" than monographs or journal publications. Nevertheless, we believe editorial and review processes are needed to provide at least a minimum level of vetting for contributions. The AAI staff, led by Dr. Sarah Whitcher Kansa (Executive Director), has editorial control over Open Context and performs this function to make sure that Open Context only publishes datasets from credentialed researchers working on properly permitted projects or professionally curated collections.
In addition, Open Context is under ongoing active software development. The AAI staff coordinates collaboration with the Information and Service Design (ISD) Program at the UC Berkeley School of Information. The ISD Program, directed by Eric Kansa (ISD Executive Director, I-School Adjunct Professor), is responsible for continued software development.
